Wonderbra
I think it's sad that people find girls who look famished, f*cked up, and suicidal attractive. It speaks a lot to our culture, deeming women as the 'emotional witches' who should have as much fat on their body as a starving snake.
It's also interesting that we rear the children, which is why we have hips and extra cushioning, yet culture demands that we look almost like a little under-developed girl (like the picture above), one that hates life and is in pain rather than loving and appreciating the gift of life inherent in her very body.
It's similiar to the false feminism of Suicide Girls, 'sexy' women who want to kill themselves. It tricks people into thinking that, because it's an alternative to the traditional image of a wholesome virgin woman, it means woman-power. You don't see images of men looking like they could collapse at any moment, weak and ready to die! The grunge man may be skinny and unkept, but by no means are they submitting to the pittiful image of weakness and immasculinity.
Don't believe the ideology that this image of a woman is feminine! It takes away from our very feminine characteristics and makes them weak and at the disposal of the almighty man!
1All of it is just passing fads. Like most trends, what you see in the mags is tyically a gross exeraggeration of what the majority of people are actually doing.
2I hate to say it, but there was something really sexy about it. I agree that it shouldn't be idolized, but I can't look at Kate Moss and honestly say she look bad. Part of it is how the photography is done, but yeah. Sick, but still sort of sexy.
3I dont have extreme amount to contribute....
4but you do need to consider the importance of music during that time, and how that influenced society at that time. The grunge music was linked the apathetic, drug induced lifestyle of a young and upcoming generation.
it's sad that Kate Moss actually looks healthier in a heroin-chic ad than she currently does as a sober adult. sad, sad, sad...
