Grey's Anatomy is back this week, and as expected, there was no shortage of emotion in the two hour season premiere. The show picks up right where we left off, in limbo between life and death as Izzie and George are both hanging on by a thread. As the two episodes continue over the 40 days after George's accident, we watch as the reality of his death sets in and affects each of the doctors in very different ways.

- Some people are pre-programmed for a heightened response to stress by conditions in the womb. Pregnant women under stress who eat a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates have babies with higher cortisol levels. Later on, these levels increase in response to stress.
- The impact of stress on the heart and circulation system is becoming more clear.

Causes
- People with fibromyalgia have decreased activity in opioid receptors in parts of the brain that affect mood and the emotional aspect of pain, researchers have found. This might explain why fibromyalgia patients are likely to experience depression, and are not very responsive to opioid painkillers.
- Researchers have identified a conflict between sensory perception and nervous system processing in people with fibromyalgia. One study suggests that people with the condition might have greater awareness of, or less tolerance for, movement problems (such as tremor) that don't match with their expected sensory feedback.

With a special crossover event comes a special crossover recap! On this week's two-hour Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice combo, Addison and Naomi (and eventually Sam) take Archer to Seattle Grace in the hopes that Derek can treat the parasites in Archer's brain. The old med school friends reminisce about the lives they used to have, before divorces and children and those other complicated things.

While the fallout from the current economic crisis is absolutely troubling, one friend who was recently laid off told me that her layoff has inspired her to live more simply. As she put it, the financial crunch has helped her to focus on what's truly important, such as spending time with family and friends, and working on her home craft business. Even though she no longer has money for much in the way of movies or extravagant dinners out, she's finding some unexpected pleasures in her new, simpler, frugal lifestyle.

George Clooney was in Berlin on Saturday night, chatting with Santa and flirting with the ladies at the "A Heart for Children" charity gala before heading to dinner with friends. He had been set to receive an award at the event for his work towards calming tensions in Darfur, but George decided to pass the honor on to aid workers in the region. While in Germany, he sat down with the country's newspaper Bild to chat about his family, friends, and why he felt undeserving of the accolades.

Bad news, Buzz readers (and America): Apparently, we have all been suffering from a crisis of uncoolness for some time now. And the worst part is we didn't even know it (or, at least, I didn't)! This is all according to the British music magazine NME — but there's good news, too, since NME has now managed to find 25 American bands that are making us cool again!
