Contraception is about to be turned on its head. While men seek a male birth control pill that will help them prevent unwanted pregnancy, second generation female condoms now give women more control over their sexual health.
Thanks to a donation from the MAC AIDS Fund, $500,000 is being spent to distribute female condoms, which protect against STDs, throughout Washington DC, where three percent of residents live with HIV/AIDS.

Male condoms are one of the best forms of birth control out there because they're cheap, you can buy them anywhere, they prevent pregnancy, and they also prevent the spread of STIs, but they only work if they don't break! Below are six reasons why a condom might rip, so keep them in mind the next time you're getting busy.

If condoms are your primary form of birth control, for both pregnancy and STI prevention, then you'll be happy to know there's a new thin condom on the market. Lifestyles Skyn pledges to be the "closest thing to wearing nothing." Well that sounds inviting, doesn't it?

Switzerland thinks it found a solution to (pre)teens having unprotected sex: tiny condoms. Statistics suggest that 12 to 14-year-olds in the country do not use sufficient protection. Perhaps that has more to do with the fact that they're children, but hey — let's get them some condoms that fit better anyway.

A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do, and when it comes to protecting herself against STIs and pregnancy, condoms are essential. The thing is, you can't always expect the guy to be in charge of supplying the condoms, so keeping them in your purse or in your bathroom cabinet is a great idea.
Although it's easy to throw them in a drawer or drop them into your bag, you don't just want them to be loose.

Condoms help prevent STIs and pregnancy, but let's face it — wearing one doesn't feel as good as wearing nothing at all. Manufacturers try to make them more appealing by adding color, scents, or flavors to them, but some condoms also offer unique shapes to intensify your pleasure. But are they really worth the extra dough?

You might not want to leave this Condom Dispenser ($42) out on the night stand if you bring home a one-night stand. But, if you're in a relationship and using condoms, it could come in quite handy. It's certainly classier than a cardboard box.

Condoms are an amazing invention, aren't they? Not only are they effective at helping you not get pregnant, but also they help prevent you from contracting an STI. Male condoms have been around much longer than female condoms so I think they definitely get used more, but isn't it great that there's another option available that allows women can be in control too?

Going to the pharmacy to pick up a pack of condoms can either be an embarrassing or proud feeling. Either way, it can be so confusing to pick ones out because there are tons of different kinds.
- Latex - These condoms are the most common and do an excellent job (when used correctly) at blocking semen from getting int the vaginal canal.
