It's funny you say this - in August my brother's beloved dog died in a tragic accident, and for weeks the vision of my brother finding the dog's body and crying over it haunted my memory. The other day, I realized I had totally forgotten about that part of it, because when I relived that day in my mind, I didn't let it go there.
So for whatever situation you're dealing with, let it reply in your mind but reshape what happens. Change the ending or leave part of it out. Then think of this "new" memory often and it should work.
That said, if you're dealing with abuse or violent memories, please seek professional help.
1^ Agreed. You can never erase anything once it has been received by your mind, it will always be there. You can however, replace those memories with your own version. Despite this, more negative thoughts attract other negative thoughts. Replace negativity with positivity, you'll notice how much happier you will be most times. It's difficult but can be done.
2I agree with Luisa. If you are dealing with traumatic memories then you really need to seek some counselling. Otherwise, there is no way to erase memories except to find more positive things to focus your attention on. Remember that what you focus on expands. So try to focus on the positive. A good thing I heard tonight from a friend was this: Whatever your intention is, that is where your attention will go. So if you are hypervigilant to negativity in your life, then you will see the negative in every situation. These are techniques that you can learn in therapy. Cognitive behavioural therapy is particularly effective at changing negative thought patterns. Good luck to you.
3go rent "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind". guaranteed you won't want to erase your memory after watching that movie.
