I understand your frustration. When I was 13 I had the same problem I used a book that helped but here is a site that has a lot of info. on them. Even why your mom prob doesnt want you using them. Its a personal decission. Here is the link http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/tampon.html It is important to relax. Use the regulars or lights if you can and try avoiding the supers unless you absolutelly need them. This site should help alot.
I know how you feel. What us women have to go through. Once it's in you should not feel it at all and they are way more comfortable than a sanitary pad. You can at least go swimming. Just make sure you change it regularly as there is a rare disease called Toxic Shock Syndrom (TSS). Good hygiene is a must. It will come right eventually.
I remember the first time i tried it hurt soooo bad to get it in. But now i don't feel a thing. once you do it once you'll be fine.
Oh don't worry sweetie! Any woman that has ever used them went through the SAME thing you are going through. The key thing is to be sure to relax when you are trying to insert one. If you tense up, it just won't work. You might want to try with one leg up on the toilet to help you get a better angle. Check the box for instruction booklet on how to use one. They give you step by step instructions with pictures. (at least they used to – I have not checked for years.) I have used Tampax all my life and those are the only ones I will ever use. Just remember to change them regularly and don't sleep in them. You can only have them in your body for a certain amount of hours that can result in Toxic Shock Syndrome. The instructions will go into greater detail.
Try these two sites for more info.

just relax and read the instructions carefully. don't leave them in for too long or too short either. it hurts to take out a dry tampon.
So this might sound weird, but try sticking your finger up there first to see what angle your, um, passage way is. When I first tried to use a tampon I thought I should try to push it straight up. Well, I needed to go at more of an angle and once I figured that out is was way easier!
I read somewhere it points down towards your back, so best to squat or put one foot on the bath or toilet.
Im 21 and only just started having a go with them on my last period - what a mess that was! ha ha ha. I can see their worth though and i will be trying again next month!
i didn't start using tampons until i was 20 because i was so freaked out by them and i felt the same way you do! i had NO idea how to put them in (or at least that i had to do it with an angle). DON'T use the largest tampon when putting it in...try the smallest ones (designated for your "light" days) so it will be easier to fit in. it takes a bit of practice but you'll get it!
