I am in my late 20's and my skin didn't get really bad until about 4 years ago. Sometimes it has cleared up on it's own but without me changing anything. I am now using Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash to wash my face and sometimes I use the Dove skin vitalizer cause it exfoliates. I also am using Mario Badescu products to help treats breakouts mostly. I thought my skin started to clear up when using these products. But I am still getting breakouts. I am too old for this. I don't know what to do to clear up my skin and keep it clear. I heard something about vitamin B5 helping acne, Has anyone tried this? Any suggestions? Any products you have used that have helped. Oh, And I tried proactive, it didn't work for me at all. I don't have medical insurance at the moment either. But have gone to the Derm. most of my life and don't feel it has helped me. Any advice, I'd apprecite. Thanks!

The best advice I can give you is you need to see a Dermatologist. If you have tried every skin care product there is, you need to see a professional. They will be able to see why you are still having breakout past your teen years.
1Yes, see a dermatologist. It could be rosacea and you get a prescripton cream for that, along with some things you have to remove from your diet.
2I also think seeing a Derm would be great. Differin worked for me when I was younger and haven't had breakout since actually. also, one of the LARGEST factors to skin breakouts is DIET. Look and see what you are eating. High in fats? sugars? unhealthy?? if you are, cut these things out and fast! veggies, fruits and lots and lots or water is fantastic for your skin!fish or foods high in omega 3 fatty acids are also good for you skin.
despite commercials I don't think neutrogena is that great either. I use st. ives apricot scrub and love it. I also use a nivea toner that has no alcohol or lots of other chemicals in it either. (it's in a pink bottle). keeping to clean, not heavily based in chemical skin products I find are best. not only for your skin but health as well. remember what you put on your skin you also put in your skin.
My last bit of advice as maybe seeing an allergine that specializes in food sensitivities. It's kind of like having a food allergy but less serious. There might be a food that is in your diet and has been forever that your not aware of being sensitive too because it's only causeing acne, not a hives breakout or something so serious. For example, I have quite a few sensitivities one of which is dairy. I'm not lactose intolerant, but it does make me depressed. Without seeing a specialist a never would have known this. After 5 years on antidepressants with not help I saw a specialist, stopped eating dairy and within three months I was no longer depressed!!!
Check out this website and maybe it might help or interest you. www.alcat.com
I know this was long, but I hope it helps!!! good luck!!!
3You need to go to the the dermatologist. The investment is worth it.
4I started taking acnease and no acne at all. Not even my traditional july/august huge cystic zit.
5I did Accutane, and I don't mind admitting it because I had awful skin beforehand, and I have not had a proper zit since then (it's been 7 years, no joke). I tried everything before going to Accutane, and while it gets a bad rap for the potential side effects (DO NOT get pregnant when you are on it, that's the largest issue - it can cause awful birth defects, your doctor will pretty much force you to go on the pill if you're sexually active), it is hands down the only thing that will work without question. Ask your dermatologist, it may be too intense but everyone I've known in my adult life never believes I had bad skin and I have never once regretted it.
Good luck!
6I've used Purpose soap by Johsnon and Johnson for acne since my dermatologist recommended it(16 years ago). I took antibiotics too. I've tried more expensive cleansers and always go back to Purpose. It's non-drying and cheap. I wash my face twice/day and can't remember my last breakout. Good luck.
7I will start off by saying, of course going to a dermatologist would be the best...but I had no idea why I started breaking out in my early 20's (not BAD breakouts, but still breaking out), I tried everything that was available over the counter - finally I went to the dermatologist who told me that the water (of all things!) was too harsh on my skin and making my skin irritated and more susceptible to breaking out.
His advice was that I start using Cetaphil to wash my face and wipe clean with a wash cloth (NO water and I would try my best to not get my face wet in the shower) and taking antibiotics and my face cleared up within a month.
I also am a fan of the Dermalogica line too - it isn't too harsh either.
8a dermo is the best way to go...splurge on a great one that knows what they're talking about. mine prescriped "benzyprox 5.75% facewash" and a vitamin supplement called nicderm (sp?). it's been a week and my skin has totally cleared up. my acne was very bad before but i'm so happy this worked. good luck!
