ok ladies I'm totally baffled. In the past year or so i've gone through 3 different birth control methods. First I got back on the pill for the first time since I got pregnant. I kept forgetting to take it a day here and there. Being afraid of getting pregnant again, I switched to the shot. It went great for a while, but I started to get EXTREMELY depressed. I constantly thought about things a mother should not be thinking about doing to herself. Recognizing what was going on I switched to the Nuva Ring wich is huge difference in hormone amounts. That was going great. Then I started to get migranes, blurry vision and nose bleeds. When I told my gyno she took me off anything with estrogen and told me never to take anything with estrogen again as my body was showing warning signs of having a possible stroke.
My dillemma now is though, now that I haven't been on birth control in a few weeks, I feel like I'm happier and myself again due to my hormones balancing out. My period is approaching, and when it does, I need to call my gyno to have her put in an IUD. But I'm sceptical. I don't want to get pregnant again, but I feel like myself for the first time in quite a while. Any advice?

My opinion: get the IUD. The copper-T has no hormones, and I was fine emotionally and physically, however I had very heavy periods. Very. I ended up switching to Mirena after I ruined yet another pair of underwear after about 2.5 years with the copper-T. Mirena has progesterone (sp?), so I don't know if that would be safe for you or not. BTW, I have one kid, who's nearly 4.5, so the IUD is effective as b/c if that's what you're skeptical about.
1I have a friend who swears by the IUD. She doesn't even get a period while she's on it.
I also know someone who is unable to do any hormonal birth control, and she and her husband rely on spermacides.
There's always condoms, too.
2If you really don't want to get pregnant, ever ever again, maybe having your tubes tied would accomplish that?
3I really like the pill. I'm on a generic one called Zovia. It's a low hormone one, it's cheap, and it's the only one that doesn't make me a looney! I've taken other ones and they either made me crazy, bloated, or gave me pimples. I really don't think it's hard to remember. Just keep it in your purse, or what I do is keep it right under my toothpaste, that way I see it every morning and remember. Good luck!
PS, I am glad you noticed that it was the hormones that were making you crazy. I had to suffer for like 3 months of crying before it dawned on me that it was the pill I was on. Ladies, do not take Yasmin, it's the worst and will give you adult acne! =)
4you can ask your doctor for the mini-pill, which is a progesterone-only pill. you mentioned in your post that it's estrogen that makes you go up the wall, so i'm thinking that having a pill with only progesterone might be good. progesterone, itself, isn't as nasty as estrogen. so as your doctor about that and maybe give that a shot.
i heard that IUD's can give you really bad cramps though. but yeah, condoms are also another option. cheap, easy, no pills, no remembering.
5My mom has been on IUD for about 6 months and swears by it... She says she felt a little discomfort for the first few weeks but now she doesn't even realize it's there... her periods have stopped, zero discomfort, and absolutely no hormonal side effects since they never reach the bloodstream
Good Luck!

6Is it possible to have an IUD put in if you haven't given birth? I have gained so much weight on the pill... I wish there were more of a mircale birth control
7I'm having a problem with the pill, I can't handle the hormones. I stopped taking it immediately. What I really want is the SPONGE, legal in Canada, but discontinued in America. I hear it's making a come back, so I'll be in line to get my 12 pack of sponges when they return
For now I am using the 'withdrawal' method and because of that I have to buy a pregnancy test today : /
