A woman I know is about 50 years old and has been out of work for almost a year. She and I work in the same field and she's always coming to me for industry advice.
The problem is, her hairstyle is absolutely horrid. It's the shorter curled style, with yellow, fried bleach-blond ends and nearly black roots. There's no way anyone would hire her looking like that.
I'd like to either provide her with a trip to the salon or offer to dye her hair back to its natural color myself. I'm very good at it, and it would take years off her appearance.
What's the best way to go about doing this?

Maybe suggest and take a girl's day out or something on your day off or weekend or something, and just hit up the salon and maybe spa and go shopping. Do a mini make over session without making it totally obvious, I guess masking it as a fun girl time day or w/e.
1Make it a fun experience. Do it positively rather then focusing on the negatives. Tell her you want to help her refresh her look because a new look means a new beginning! Dont say she looks bad or imply that she NEEDS a change just that sometimes a change is good!
2As a stylist, I have had this issue with others as well. Tell her that you either:
a. want to have a spa day like others suggested
b. tell her you saw this hot style in a magazine and you thought she would look perfect if she got it. Then tell her you think she will get hired for better jobs if she has a younger and fresher look. Give her a chance to give feedback. There might be a reason her hair looks like that. Maybe she doesn't have the money or has never tried anything else.
c. tell her that you saw this hot look you wanted to try and you didn't want to do it alone and ask if she'd be willing to go with you and you'd pay for the trip since she was cool enough to go along.
I would not do it myself, however.. Let her get pampered and get a professional's advice.
