I went on the pill 6 months ago because I was dealing with 12 - 14 day periods, horrible cramps and acne. It worked beautifully in solving all those problems, so I'm very happy in that regard.
Unfortunately, I've gained 8 pounds. I'm sure it's from the pill because I've weighed 130 for years and years (I'm almost 31). Suddenly I'm 138, it's all added to my mid-section, my pants don't fit and I feel gross in a swimsuit.
I'm already vegetarian and I work out 3 - 4 times a week. The weight keeps creeping up though. Is there anything I can do? Any recommendations?

You sound exactly like me! I am 130 and I gained exactly 8 pounds on the first pill that I tried.
Later in life I tried again with Yasmin and didn't gain a pound.
I guess my point is that other pills might work better for you. You should talk to your DR to see if you can switch.
1It's not the pill.
You weight can fluctuate a large amount in a day depending on your water retention and various other factors. If you really are noticing a difference from "8 pounds", I would suggest working out harder and adjusting your diet accordingly.
Never count pounds, count inches.
2hithatsmybike, how can you say that unequivocally? Are you her doctor?
3the pill can't DIRECTLY make you gain solid MASS. it just can't. it's not caloric!
4you could be bloated, the hormones can be making you eat more but all in all you have control over that part. (the food-in-mouth part)
do 30-45min of cardio every other day or at least 3 times a week with some weights to help you burn it off. it's only 8 measly pounds. what about if and when you have children? you're not going to blame your baby for your weight gain are you? your body is your temple and you can do a lot of incredible things with it. now that the heavy period is a burden lifted, up your confidence and start a little fitness. you'll feel/look like a million bucks. you can do it-just take the wheel!
This was my question, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the pill has caused my weight gain. I don't eat any more than usual, and as you'll notice in my post I'm vegetarian and I work out 3 - 4 times per week, as always.
I'm up to 139.7 pounds now . . .it continues to creep up, and I've gained even since asking this question last week. It's ridiculous. While it may not be "solid mass", my waist has increased 2.5 inches and like I said, my clothes don't fit. Regardless of what type of weight gain it is, I was looking for ideas, not people telling me to eat less.
lilCROAT03, I don't think you even read my entire post. Eight pounds, actually 9.7 now, is a HUGE difference on someone my size. And don't be stupid with the whole kids remark. That's a whole other situation that's not even relevant right now.
5While the little pill cant cause weight gain itself it CAN cause your horomones to readjust themselves so that the calories you were taking in before and the excercise you were doing to control the calorie intake can just stop working like they were for so many years. The BC pill might not have calories but it affects ALOT more in our bodies then just not getting pregnant. therefore, lilcroat03, the pill can cause someone to gain weight.
Go talk to your doctor. Get some midol for your cramps and some proactive for your face and try a different method. Sounds like your body is not reacting well to this specific pill. Might be better to go the hormone-less way like the IUD or go with simply less horomones.. talk to your doc about finding a lower dose BC. Keep trying til you find one that works with you.

6I've done ProActiv (didn't work) and I was having to take Midol every 2 hours for days because my cramps were so bad. Those aren't solutions. Especially considering my periods were lasting up to 2 weeks. I don't take the pill for birth control, so there's no point in doing the IUD.
