Arrghhhh!!!!!!! I am so upset right now. I swear if anyone comes to close I'll stab em in the eye with a pencil! So I asked for 6 days of spread out over 2.5 weeks on Monday. Well what I said was, is it alright for me to take a few days off as my sister is visiting from overseas. The answer from my manager was no problem, just let me know when. So I speak to my team lead (I'm a PA and a temp, so there's someone else I have to get to authorise it as well). team lead said, yeah, if its ok with your manager that's fine, just let me know if she needs any extra cover while you're off. So fine. I submit my days - which are basically next monday and friday next week, monday and friday the week after that and tuesday and wednesday the week after that. So manager freaks out and is all, that's too much time (?!?!?!?) I didn't realise you needed so much, I guess I will need cover then.
I said 'If its too much time I can take less' (even though I was thinking, this place is so much less important than my family, so if i have to leave I will as I'm only temping)
So then manager said - well find out from your agency how much you're allowed to take. So I send a message to my agency. Only to find out that a message had already been sent to my agency and about 4 other people (including team lead) stating that I seem to think that 6 days isn't a lot? So since I monitor manager's emails, I just read an ongoing conversation between team lead, her and another manager saying that its too much time, I'm just a temp and shouldn't need to take that much time (I'm on an 8 month contract hello?) and considering that my work hasn't been all that great lately, it isn't a good time to be going away.
Would have been nice if someone had told me. I feel really upset, underappreciated, and like I've been totally disrespected.
Obviously since I'm 'just a temp' I guess I can -and will- find something else over the next couple of weeks.
I really didn't think it was a big deal and would have appreciated if someone had told me it was before sounding the freakin' alarm and acting like I'm this year's worst employee!!
Ok, I think I'm finished ranting now.
I feel a little bit better.
Why is it that because I'm a temp, I'm treated as though I'm not quite as human as everyone else?

Some people just don't appreciate good help. My sister is one of the most important people in my life and if she was visiting from overseas.. I, too, would fight for time off.
In the meantime, if it's an easy task, I would speak to my agency about different placement. Don't stay where you aren't appreciated. Express that you were a hard worker and you felt undervalued and unappreciated while in your current job. This may help them place you quicker..
1I agree call the agency and see what else they have and have fun with your sister. Sometimes they blame the temps for their own mistakes to cover their own asses. I know because I've been a temp myself. Just don't mention that you read the emails and don't ask for anymore time off and let the agency do all the talking for you when you leave since they don't even consider you their employee basically. Good luck.
2Your sister is so much more important than these people! It's a special circumstance, it's not like you will always be needing that much time off. I agree with these girls, see if your agency can place you in another job, this place seems to operate really poorly. If the management team where you are currently placed knows that you have access to their rude emails, you could try bringing it up with the HR department and asking what your plan for dealing with the situation should be. Don't let these people get you down, it's there own fault if they can't even communicate to you what their needs are. Have a great time with your sister, and don't give your job a second thought on your days off!
