I went back on the pill on March 1 so that my skin would clear up and my periods would be shorter and less painful. The dr. put me on Ortho TriCyclen Lo, and it's been the worst month ever.
First, I spotted the whole time. Then I got a heavy period a week ago (when I was still taking active pills) that hasn't let up - it's heavier and more painful than any period before. For three nights in a row I've had to use a super tampon and an overnight pad to make it through the night.
I've been taking Midol daily since Friday. I've also been lethargic, bloated and getting lots of headaches all month.
I called my doctor to try a different brand, but they want me to make another appointment. My health insurance didn't even cover half of my first appointment, so I can't afford to go back in.
So my question is this - should I stick it out another month and see if things get better? Or is my reaction over the top? I used to take Ortho Tricyclen (years ago) and it never did this to me.

I would stop taking it and ask them to call in a different prescription. This shouldn't happen, i think this same thing happened to my sister and i want to say it was the same pills. she had to change pills.
I take Lo-ovral, i don't know if it will help you with clearing up your skin but it helps somewhat with the cramps and period. Good luck!
1Hmmmm....I disagree with the last poster. I DONT think you should just stop altogether as this will surely make you alot more miserable. I say try Loestrin 24 I have been on it for a year and LOVE IT! In the beginning I was like you..miserable but within 2-3 months my body became adjusted and now I am fine. Dont make any harsh moves without talking to your doctor first!
2What were you on before you were on the pill? The shot or nothing? If you were on some sort of horomones then maybe you should stop with the horomones? I've got an IUD because my body couldnt handle the additional horomones and I was just constantly spotting and had horrible cramps and gained weight and my face broke out constantly... horomones dont mesh well, I'm already horomonal enough as is!!
The IUD has (obviously) no horomones but it may increase your flow and may increase the pain in cramps so if you cramp really bad with no horomones then it's probably not suggested. I, personally, didnt notice any difference except I dont spot or have any of those awful side effects from horomones. You're gonna have to consult your doctor and I dont know anything about your health care there but dont they have free women's clinics? We have them here in BC, Canada, you pay for your Birth Control but not the appointment. Look up a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area. Good luck!
